MAAA Wingspan

27 NOVEMBER WING SPAN MAAALogo. During the event, the younger generation were also kept uniquely happy with a lolly bomber drop organised by and released from Ross Bathies’ 50% Pawnee. Of more technical interest there was Dino’s aforementioned Topmodel 6M Ventus, which had a Torcman self-launching system and the rare WINDEX 1200C of Caroline Michael. Dino would also like to mention the hospitality of the NAAS Club that included a fabulous three-course dinner on the Saturday evening. “Master of Ceremonies was Club President John Armarego, assisted by Chris Young-Wright but with the real power behind the throne Diane, doing most of the hard kitchen work, along with her trusted apprentices Jerry and Dave on desserts,” he added. Dino also describes how an unlucky occurrence during the event became a classic example of the camaraderie and mateship that this hobby endorses. “A tug mishap saw the main gear ripped off a HOTTs,” he said. “This was cause for a couple of members to go back home to their workshops and cut and drill into the night to get the pieces back to the field so that repairs could be completed, the glue would literally then have time to dry and the tug would be ready for the next day’s flying.” With all the hard work from NAAS members, along with the acknowledged support from the MAAA in ensuring the necessary compliances and promotion, the NAAS club was able to showcase some of the best model aircraft and model aircraft flying in Australia. “Aerotows are proving to be increasingly popular and for any future events I’d like to see modellers attending from as many different states as possible and enjoy some silent flying with these incredibly graceful and efficient machines.” said Dino.
