MAAALogo. 5 Safety First As Australia’s largest flying organisation, the MAAA is committed to providing the best and safest flying experience for our members. To continue to enjoy the fun, thrills and camaraderie of the sport, it’s important to help keep the skies safe and our pilots injury free. However, the MAAA understands that even the most experienced modellers can have accidents. The MAAA’s job is to keep you, the clubs and your planes safe at all times. Unlike any other association in Australia, the MAAA conduct thorough investigations in order to ascertain what incidents or accidents are trending. They then seek to put corrective action in place, reducing risks for the entire MAAA community. Open communication is therefore paramount. No matter how small, all accidents or incidents should be reported to the MAAA secretary immediately. When an accident or incident occurs, we then speak directly with clubs and members to ensure that they are safe, feel supported and that a resolution can be reached quickly. To ensure members don’t feel trepidation in reporting an incident or become concerned about repercussions, the MAAA adopts a “just culture” when investigating accidents and incidents. It’s not about blaming our members; our job is to maintain a safe environment for our members, their clubs and your planes. Through this process, the MAAA are not only protecting the reputation of the sport, but by sharing the collective knowledge of incidents that occur in the flying community, they’re helping reduce the number of accidents, improving the perception of the sport and making it safer for all involved.
