2016F1AirRaceSandown
The F1 Air Race at Sandown is scheduled for
January 31, 2016. Last year more than 3000
people came along to the event, held at
Sandown Raceway.
On top of these exciting events Australia will
also host the 2016 F2 World Championships for
Control Line Model Aircraft.
Keep an eye on the MAAA website,
.
asn.au, for event details and contact the MAAA
secretary
for details
if your club would like to participate in these
events.
The MAAA is committed to helping our clubs
provide facilities that will not only benefit
members, but encourage all Australians to take
part in our exciting sport.
That’s why we invest in our Club Assistance
Scheme which will see clubs across the country
share in more than $55 0000 in the latest
round.
Funding will be used by clubs to purchase items
such as toilet facilities, shipping containers
for safe storage, lawn mowers and
firefighting equipment to ensure
everyone’s safety.
In addition to the Club Assistance
Scheme the MAAA also provides
extremely low interest loans to
State Associations and clubs for
infrastructure development.
The MAAA has secured Property
Insurance of $10,000 for all
MAAA clubs through V-Insurance.
V-Insurance will provide “top
up” for your club property over
the $10,000 at a reasonable
price on request for a quotation. A summary
of information relating to MAAA Property
Insurance is included in this issue of Wingspan
and available along with a General Summary
of Insurance on the MAAA website. Please
contact
for further
information.
The MAAA is always keen to hear about
member’s views and if you have any story ideas
for Wingspan, please contact

Until next time have a safe, fun flight.

SAFETY
MATTERS
While safety regulations can
sometimes be considered as
“mundane” or restrictive, it’s very,
very important to recognise that
most rules have come about as a
result of injuries that have occurred
to pilots over the years.
Along with important information
from CASA (on this page), it is
worthwhile to:
• Conduct all your pre-flight
checks and make sure your
equipment, especially radios,
are operating properly
• Ensure your aircraft is not at
high power at any stage during
ground manoeuvres
• Conduct regular maintenance
on your model aircraft
• Make every effort to protect
your hands: The most
common injury to modellers
are lacerations to hands,
which often requires surgery,
long recovery time and
physiotherapy
• Be extremely careful after
your flight to avoid touching
any internal compartment of
your aircraft -- hot engine parts
equate to nasty burns
• Watch the inward turns when
flying helicopters or multi-rotor
aircraft and make sure you
fly your aircraft at least nine
metres away from yourself,
other pilots and observers
THE MAAA IS TASKED WITH REPORTING ON SAFETY MATTERS.
WE HELP MAKE MODEL AEROPLANE FLYING SAFER FOR
EVERYONE TO ENJOY.
