To see women in action was also great for the
sport. A special mention goes to Julie Gallimore
from ACT who was flying her T-Rex in the
advanced section of the competition.
Overall, the National Championship was a great
success highlighting the best of our sport. The
competition received national media coverage
and now is the time for our clubs to take
advantage of this momentum.
We’d love to see our sport promoted both to
our members and the general community. This
can be done through clubs holding events and
issuing press releases to promote our sport.
To help you grow your club we’ve provided some
advice on how to write a press release that
will help local clubs promote their events, and
ultimately, our sport.
We have also compiled a quick guide to holding
an event at your club, which can be viewed at
Have you considered creating a welcome
pack to introduce members to your club? You
can help people take flight at your club by
making them feel welcome. A simple letter of
introduction with some history about your club
and some tips on flying for beginners, or your
flight schedule, might be just what people need
to encourage them to come along again.
It’s now time to renew your membership with
the MAAA.
The MAAA looks after all your insurance needs.
We take care of the red tape so you can spend
more time in the air. We also provide more than
insurance for your peace of mind.
Please take part in the MAAA 2015 Member’s
Survey. Last year’s survey produced some
fantastic results and once again we want to
hear your views on the future of aeromodelling
across the country.
Go to
r/2015MAAA and have your say for your chance
to win one of five $50 vouchers.
Until next time have a safe, fun flight.

SAFETY
MATTERS
There have been a number of safety
incidents since the start of 2015.
Some have resulted in claims for
injuries and vehicle damage and
many of these incidents could have
been avoided. We would like to
remind everyone how important it is
to STOP and think about safety.
STOP
and thinkabout
safety!
Accidentally moving the throttle on
armed electric models or hand-
launching electric models with rear
mounted motors and propellers
catches out many modellers causing
injuries. Be aware of where your
hands are positioned whenever you
are using your model.
Removing the glow plug driver, be
it a single unit or one attached to
a battery lead, has caused some
nasty injuries. In some cases these
injuries resulted in extensive
surgery and considerable time off
work for recovery. Not good when all
you would like to do is get out and
fly!
You wouldn’t imagine it, but yes,
model aircraft and vehicles have
collided! Please think about where
you park your car when you arrive
at the field. Aircraft and parked cars
don’t mix well and you don’t need to
waste time and deal with the hassle
of vehicle repairs, so park safely
next time you are at your field.
The MAAA frequently investigates
incidents and experience tells us
that in a lot of cases accidents don’t
“just happen”. There’s a chain of
events leading up to any incident
or accident and it only takes one
comment or action to break a link in
the chain, preventing an incident.
If you see a situation about to
occur don’t be afraid to take
action or speak up to help out
your mate.
We can lower the risk of injury by
being aware of our surroundings.
Please report any safety concerns
you have to us.
THE MAAA IS TASKED WITH REPORTING ON SAFETY MATTERS.
WE HELP MAKE MODEL AEROPLANE FLYING SAFER FOR
EVERYONE TO ENJOY.
To see women in action was also
great for the sport. A special
mention goes to Julie Gallimore
who was flying her T-Rex in
the advanced section of the
competition.
