The event does not need to be a flying display (unless
your club wishes to do so) therefore no approvals are
required. It would be great however, to seemembers of
the public encouraged to come along and take part in our
sport!
Come on, join in, and show that aeromodelling as a
sport can give something back to the community,
especially such a worthy cause.
The MAAA encourages and supports
enthusiasts to enjoy aeromodelling
in a safe and fun environment so that
everybody can experience the adrenaline
rush and thrill of flight.
We really encourage your club to hold
public events when it’s practical to do so,
and encouragemembers of the public to
come along and ‘have a go’.
We want to see our fantastic sport
grow. It’s really a sport the whole family
can enjoy! With that inmind, we’ve put
together some tips to help your club plan
for events.
We’ve passed on these tips to your State
body, but you can also find themon our
website
, under the
Education section.
Remember, your club can help people
experience the thrill of flight…
Have you considered creating a welcome
pack to introducemembers to your club?
You can help people take flight at your
club by making them feel welcome. A
simple letter of introduction with some
history about your club and some tips
on flying, for beginners, or your flight
schedule, may be just what people need
to encourage them to come along again!

Out &
about
With everything from aerobatic to
combat models, aircraft enthusiasts
from across the country descended
on the Sunshine State and were spoilt
for choice with gliding, control line,
helicopters and IMAC events held
across an action-packed week.
QUEENSLAND RECENTLY GOT
A TASTE OF THE BEST OF OUR
SPORT WHEN THE 68TH MAAA
MODEL AIRCRAFT NATIONAL
CHAMPIONSHIPS WERE HELD
AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS FROM
BRISBANE TO THE SUNSHINE
AND GOLD COASTS.
Ivor was a key person in the history
of aeromodelling in Australia,
as can be seen from his AUS
number, which is the first issued
in Australia. He was instrumental
in providing guidance from the
beginning of MAAA and through
his continued endeavours to
promote aeromodelling in all its
forms, especially to the juniors of
Australia.
His main area of involvement
was in free flight, but he was a
great stalwart and involved in
the promotion of all facets of
aeromodelling throughout his
life. Bob Carpenter recalls, ‘I
still have memories of Ivor and I
erecting RAAF supplied tents for
the Nationals in 1988. The young
guys stood around and watched
whilst we, the old guys, climbed
to the top of the framing and this
was after Ivor rode his bicycle from
Doonside to Richmond to assist’.
This epitomised Ivor’s involvement
in our sport.
The passing of a great man. He will
be sadly missed.
